A Grown Up Skincare Routine

Disclaimer: I am wearing concealer in these photos. I did not literally step out of the shower and look this fresh-faced. There is nothing I hate more than women on the Internet pretending they “woke up like this” when they’re def wearing makeup. You’re not fooling anyone, you’re just making your readers feel insecure about their imperfections.

I know you can’t tell by looking *hair flip*, but I’m not much of a beauty geek. I’ve been basically using the same skincare routine since high school. Which was more than a decade ago (gasp!). I’ve always had a pretty low maintenance routine: in the morning it’s drugstore face wash + drugstore moisturizer, then sunscreen, and makeup, done and done. In the evening sometimes I get fancy with my Clarisonic face brush, but I usually forget.

But now that I’m no longer in my 20s, I’m starting to finally put more thought and effort into caring for my skin. I’ve always been bbfs with sunscreen (thanks Dad), and now I’m starting to explore other products aimed and protecting and nourishing my lil’ face. I even recently bought a face oil! (Still not totally sure I’m using it right.) I’m very slow to adopt new beauty trends, and super skeptical of fad products. Hence my unchanged-decade-old routine.

I first heard about Biossance through the blogging grapevine (thanks @WannabeFashionBlogger!) and finally tried them out for myself. The key ingredient in their products is squalane, which is a hydrating molecule produced by our bodies. Your production of squalane starts decreasing in your 20s, but Biossance products contain a plant based version of squalane that helps balance your body’s depleting resources. Pretty cool, right?

I’ve been using the Probiotic Gel Moisturizer for a few weeks now and it’s kind of blowing my mind. I put it on in the evening right after I wash my face, but I think it would also layer well under makeup. It’s the perfect consistency (not too thick, and not too oily), and leaves my skin feeling hydrated but light and fresh. You know how some moisturizers feel kind of sludgy on your face? No such sludge here. I have already noticed more evenness and less redness in my skin tone.

I can’t wait to try some of their other products! You can snag a free sample of their two best sellers here. What skincare products do you swear by?

Some of these products were gifted. I always disclose a gifted product with “c/o” (courtesy of). I never accept products from brands I don’t wholeheartedly support. If I don’t actually love a product, I don’t put it on my blog. Period.
