Hello lovers! This outfit was from our Memorial Day weekend excursion upstate to Hudson for our anniversary. (Wooohooo! Married one whole year, we did it! You can see photos from our wedding here.) I was really diggin’ this all-American look juxtaposed with the quintessential small town vibes of Hudson.
You guys know by now that I friggin’ love statement pieces. My mental checklist: Is it bright / loud / graphic / a unique material / an unexpected silhouette? Statement pieces are not impractical as long as you know how to also use them as versatile pieces. Wear them with a casual outfit (like this Canadian tuxedo below) to add some unexpected flair, pair them with all black for a bold pop of color and texture, or wear them with other loud pieces for an over-the-top show stopping look.
When I saw these sandals at Zara, I knew they would be my statement slide of the summer. They’re comfortable enough for everyday wear, but also totally weird and outlandish. Hmm…weird and outlandish. Sounds like someone I know.
Me. It me. I’m talking about me.
The only other thing I want to mention is this striped long sleeve tee. I own this top in 3 or 4 variations (short sleeve, long sleeve, light-weight, mid-weight). A striped tee is a really easy way to make an outfit look pulled together. It’s no less comfortable and no more complicated than a plain tee shirt, but it looks much more polished (and a little bit les Français). Plus, remember from this post, stripes are neutrals, so you can mix them shamelessly with other patterns!
I’m going to keep this short and sweet because what I really want is for you to get some dope statement flats for the sum-sum-summer! And these Zara ones are still available!
