Clothes & Pizza

Now that it’s fall (sort of), you’re inevitably seeing every fashion publication and blogger write their take on “menswear” this season. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a badass blazer, but it’s 2017, women have been holding high powered jobs and wearing suiting for nearly a century, and I think it’s time we reclaim that sartorial genre. It’s one thing to literally wear a man’s jacket or pants (and I’m all for it), but let’s quit calling clothing that’s actually made for women “menswear.”

How about suiting? Or trousers? Or a blazer? I think those terms work just fine. Also, speaking of menswear, fun fact: did you know that Fedoras were originally worn by women. Me neither.

On a sort of similar note, something that I’ve been thinking about a lot since reading this blog post by my fellow-Brooklyn-babe, Grace: With everything that’s been going on in the news lately (well, really since November 8th last year), I thought I’d address something on here:

I try to keep my political opinions and my blog opinions separate. I am relatively vocal on my personal social channels (and in my real life) about my political and social beliefs, but my blog has become a place of mental refuge for me. With the world literally crumbling around us, and an absolute buffoon in the white house, digesting the news IRL and on my blog is too emotionally exhausting for me. So forgive me if I continue to blab about #trending voluminous sleeves whilst people have real problems.

I subconsciously insert my opinions on here sometimes because my tippy tappy fingers have a mind of their own. But for the most part, this is a place where both you and I can kinda turn our brains off. This might change in the future, but for now, it’s mostly pattersmashing and fanny packs in my little corner of the Internet. Namaste.

  1. I think this may be one of my favorite outfits so far…I mean seriously, babe, you’re killing it. And, you probably saw my post last week on Instagram….where I was kind of thinking along the same lines as you on this post. We know that we’re more complicated beings than what we present on our blogs/instagrams/social media, etc. But, seriously, in these times with our own challenges it is important to have a safe place — a place to not have to think about it. And you’re right, some days that will not be…and those things creep into our blogs, etc. But that’s human. We’re emotive beings that don’t operate on formulas and posting schedules (at least that’s how I operate). Gosh, I wish I lived near you….ugh. Love you lady.

    • Oh girrrrrl thank you SO MUCH. And thank you for the affirmation that I’m not crazy for trying to keep my blog life a bit separate from my “life life.” Sometimes it’s just too exhausting to be every part of yourself in every part of your life. I wish you lived closer too. Sigh* LOVE YOU!
