The story I’m about to tell you is going to make me sound douchey, but I swear, I’m not a douche.
We all know that “fashion sneakers,” or athleisure shoes, have been having a major comeback in the past few years. With white sneakers at the forefront in particular. And a couple of months ago I had it in my little brain that Nike Cortezes were going to be the new “it” sneaker. Kind of like the Nike Free craze a few years ago. And not just any Nike Cortezes, the OG Forrest Gump classic Cortezes. I had some custom Cortezes made for my wedding last year, but I desperately wanted to upgrade to the red, white, and blue ones. They weren’t made by Nike anymore, so I scoured the Internet for weeks to find some. I even bought a pair on eBay that never arrived (they refunded me, don’t worry). When I finally found my size on some sneakerhead website I practically jumped out of my socks.
Fast forward a few weeks, and I’m starting to see Cortezes everywhere! Even one of my all time favorite bloggers just did a #sponsored post wearing them. Coincidentally she’s wearing the same ones I had made for my wedding (👯 twinsies). Now I’m not saying I started the Cortez trend, but I’m also not saying I didn’t (I didn’t). There’s something both naive and narcissistic about flirting with the idea that you started a trend. Just let me live in this little fantasy for a hot minute.
