But I Still Heart NY
Something about wearing an I Heart NY shirt as a New Yorker makes me feel like the guy who’s wearing the shirt of the band at their concert. But I love this city, and I don’t care if it makes me look like a nerd. As long as it doesn’t make me look like a tourist…
Just kidding, I’m not actually concerned with that. Only because New Yorkers can spot tourists a mile away. Seriously, you’re not blending in. But, just because we know who you are, doesn’t mean we won’t be nice to you. New Yorkers are happy to give you directions, help you use the subway, or tell you what DUMBO stands for. Just get out of the way during rush hour (who am I kidding—every hour), and watch that selfie stick.
I couldn’t not pair my new pizza clutch with this tee. This ridiculously perfect bag was gifted to me by a lovely British gal named Alanna who blogs over here. She is an absolute pizza peach.
The graphic designer in me can’t write this post without mentioning Milton Glaser, the designer behind the I Love NY logo. The logo was designed in 1977 as part of an advertising campaign to promote tourism in New York City and state. Fun fact: the I Heart NY logo is (probably) the most imitated piece of graphic design ever. The state of New York files over 200 cease and desist claims against copycatters every year. If you find this remotely interesting, one of my favorite podcasts, 99% Invisible, has a great episode on the topic.
I was going to include some of my favorite New Yorky things in this blog post. But I think I’ll save that for another time…
