Velvet on Velvet
If one more person blogs that velvet is this season’s hottest trend, I think the world will explode. So I’m not going to say it, I’m just going to silently nod my head and agree. The 90s have been steadily coming back for the past few years (spaghetti straps! platforms! slip dresses!), so it doesn’t surprise me at all that velvet is back in rotation.
I love this velvet double-breasted dress because it’s super versatile. If I ditch the turtleneck and tights it suddenly becomes cocktail party attire. It’s also finally leather jacket weather in NYC. I get about a month of wear out of my leathers before it gets too cold and I need to switch them out for something thicker. I finally invested in a nice leather jacket last year—I had previously been wearing vintage or faux-leather versions (which were fine, but I was ready to pull the trigger). This jacket is from Mango, and was somewhere the $200-300 range, which ain’t bad at all. I wanted something relatively classic, but with a little twist. Which is how I landed on this black biker jacket with textured shoulders.
Scroll down for some other black leather jackets from this season that I have my eye on. What’s your opinion on faux versus genuine leather?
PS: I scored this vintage Fendi clutch at a Goodwill in Palo Alto probably close to 15 years ago. Eeep!
